“2008 Taiwan Scholarship Program” kicks off!

The “2008 Taiwan Scholarship Program: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Scholarship” has started accepting applications from the St. Lucian applicants. The purpose of the program is to enhance the educational exchanges between St. Lucia and Taiwan, and provide an opportunity for people who would like to experience different culture and study abroad for a bachelor, master or PhD degree.

Taiwan has been one of the leading countries in many industries, such as information technology and semi-conductor industries, and has been trying to contribute itself to the international community based on its strong hi-tech and economic capabilities. One important reason for the achievement of an economic miracle of Taiwan is the development of its well-educated human resources. There are 103 universities and 62 colleges in Taiwan, and the higher educational institutions offer plentiful opportunities for students to study in different areas. For instance, Taiwan has been famous at developing top-quality medical, electronic engineering and information technology professionals for its well-known medical services and IT industry. In addition, Taiwan has also developed plenty of talents in different areas, such as arts, social sciences, sciences, literature, films, etc.

Please be informed that the applicants, who would like to apply for the mentioned Taiwan Scholarship, have to deliver her/his application documents, including a completed application form, a copy of secondary school or higher education certificate and transcript, and two reference letters, to the Embassy by 31 March 2008. The Embassy will then review those application documents and select the recipients for the mentioned scholarship program. Once the persons are granted Taiwan Scholarship, they will be provided single flight ticket to Taipei, and NT$30,000 living allowance (about US$950) per month to study in Taiwan. It would be necessary for every recipient to study mandarin during the first year, and then apply for undergraduate or postgraduate programs offered by the universities.
